Perfect day for POTA/SOTA activation
It really was a perfect day for a POTA/SOTA activation, beyond expectations: nice weather (maybe a little bit too sunny, HI), optimum temperature (24 degrees compared to 38 at home) and a wonderful view. I only worked on 20m, CW and FT8. Towards the end, I also launched a few SSTV calls and managed to make one contact. The power used was 40W, in a telescopic whip antenna with a height of 5m. Being a very light wind it withstood without any problems. I didn't need a tuner, tun
Preparing for first SOTA activation
Hot WX continues to hang over YO, so I will take advantage to reach a SOTA location (MC-222) at 2000 m altitude. This choice is not random, the distance I have to travel by train to the nearest city is short (traveling by train in YO is not an easy thing) and it is at the same time a POTA location, RO-1155. I'm preparing a backpack with the bare essentials for an activity of approximately 5-6 hours, in CW and FT4/8: FT-891, 5 m telescopic antenna (so I will start in 14 Mhz an

Starting the portable season with bike
After a cold and rainy spring, finally I started the POTA season, using the bike for reaching parks in Bucharest.

SSTV in 10m
During November, the 10m band provided great propagation conditions, combined, of course, with the high solar activity. These conditions...

How strong was the last geomagnetic storm ?
On 10th and 11th of May, all active hams in HF bands felt the huge effects of the geomagnetic storm over radio propagation. But, how...

QSO Statistics for Year 2023

Finally, I decided what my new transceiver is
Yaesu FT-817ND was, for a long time, my only multimode and multiband transceiver, having really good results with random wires and whip...

WSPR signal improvement
In my last post, I mentioned a WSPR experiment based on Raspberry Pi and the QRPi module. At that moment, the QRPi was connected directly...
